Essential
oils each have their own particular properties and cautions to
observe. We have listed some of these below for your information
only but it is not an exhaustive list. If in doubt always seek
advice from your medical practitioner or a qualified aromatherapist.
- If
you are considering using essential oils or essential oil products
you should seek advice from your general practitioner especially
if you are on any medication and/or have any current medical
condition.
- Essential
oils should never be used in the first 4 months of pregnancy.
After this time there are only a few that can be used safely
but please consult your aromatherapist for advice before use.
- Essential
oils of any kind should not be used on children under
6 years unless you have sought advice from a qualified aromatherapist.
- Keep
essential oils and products out of the reach of children.
- You
should never sunbathe after using essential oils, as they may
be phototoxic. This means that they will accelerate sunburn.
Some of the most phototoxic oils are Bergamot, Orange, Mandarin,
Lemon, Lime. Tangerine and Ginger.
- Some
people will have their own favourite essential oil(s) and use
it / them every day. It is wise to give yourself a break from
excessive use as over time the body will build up an immunity
to it and so render it ineffective. A case in point is Tea Tree
which can eventually build up toxicity in the body with over
use.
- Should
you have an allergic reaction please discontinue use immediately
and contact your G.P.
- Never
apply undiluted essential oils to the skin unless the instructions
specify this.
- Never
take essential oils internally

PATCH
TEST
Due
to the nature of essential oils it is always advisable to
do a patch test, especially if you have sensitive skin.
Rub
the product you will be using on the inside of your arm
in the sensitive area just below the elbow. Place a plaster
over the area (unless you are allergic) and leave overnight.
If you find that you have a reaction then avoid using that
product. If you have no reaction then it is likely to be
safe for use.
